Before making his manga debut with Doubt, Yoshiki Tonogai was an assistant to Soul Eater creator Atsushi Ohkubo. Tonogai followed up his hit horror series Doubt with another survival horror title called JUDGE, and has also contributed to the Higurashi When They Cry series.

Entertaining soap opera with a grisly background

Secret volume 2 continues to be an improvement over Yoshiki Tonogai’s previous series (Judge, Vol. 1 and Doubt, Vol. 1), with more emphasis on character profiles and less on gratuitous murders. The deaths happened in the past, so now people are analyzing them — although there is the occasional attempted homicide, just to ramp up the suspense.

We open with a profile of an accidental survivor. He stayed home sick from class on the day of the deadly bus trip, but he’s still severely affected by the events, since he was secretly dating one of the students who died. That might explain his suicide — if that’s what it was. I’m not sure what, if anything, to trust in this story, particularly once the adult hired to help the kids with their guilt starts talking about how “it would’ve been better if [someone else] died.” That’s not the usual sentiment one hears from a counselor.

He’s the manipulator in this situation, but he’s a known one, threatening the kids to reveal their secrets by the end of the week. There were three murders to account for, and we find out about the second one in this volume — but the context is very different from the first, in Secret, Vol. 1.

Secret is a chewy soap opera, with revelations moving the story along at a pace that keeps each volume interesting. It’s not particularly deep or memorable, but for a bit of emotionally driven entertainment, it’s readable. (Review originally posted at ComicsWorthReading.com.)

The story is great! We start answering the questions left in Vol. 1 while creating new ones in Vol.2. It's a really gripping and suspense filled story that fans of the genre will love.

just fantastic

I will mirror close to everyone else who has reviewed this product in saying that if it was spiral-bound it would go from being a great book to a near-perfect book. But the occasionally difficult-to-manage perfect binding is not a major deficit to a very well conceived and organized book. Not only are the asanas arranged according to general bodily position (sitting, standing, etc), but they also are arranged in a sequence that flow, so the following is one that would realistically be something that would follow the preceding. So you can intuitively hash out where the position you want is without having to return again and again to the index. At least that's my experience.

Each asana is also labeled with lead ins, variations, and other helpful information, and many of the more complex ones have the sequence to enter it. Every single thing in the book is accompanied by good, full color, unambiguous photographs to compare against. If I lost it I would buy another copy. I think that's about the best praise I can give a book like this.

Love That I Can Travel with It Easily

As someone who is just starting her yoga practice, I wanted a book I could carry with me while I travel and refer to often. I found that in The Yoga Bible by Christina Brown. This small manual packs a mighty punch by explaining the different limbs of yoga as well as 150 poses. I was especially interested in the Sun Salutations because they seem like something I can do easily despite having a back injury.

The book has full color photographs that accompany the text making it easy to visualize a pose before trying it out. The bible can easily be carried in a handbag or gym bag. I have mine in with my yoga mat so I can review it often. I'm a big fan of small books and love the meditation guide I have that is a similar size. I feel like this is a good resource for anyone wanting to learn yoga poses or brush up on their yoga postures after a hiatus.

Great intro to Music Theory book

I'm self learning music theory to better understand what I'm playing on the piano. It seems like this book is written for a 1 quarter long music theory class. The way I've been using it is:
* i read through the new chapter over the weekend
* I drill the new chapter ideas with Music Theory Pro on my iPad; this is a great tool. It lets one select the specific areas to drill on and asks a number of random questions. Once I'm getting 100% on these in a fairly quick time, I use the questions at the end of the chapter as a "test" (I usually take this on the following Saturday.)

I had previously taken a 1st quarter music theory class at a local community college, but did not learn nearly as much as I did with this book. I'm currently working through book 2 in the series.

This book has a lot of terminology and is full of music theory background. My purpose in buying the book was to become better at improving and to understand the theory behind the music. This book did not help much with actually improvising but book 2 did and I'm sure this background material was necessary. I really did like the exercises with answers at the end of each chapter.

I believe after ALL these years I am finally going to learn and understand music. Mark Harrison makes you do the work in such a way you have no choice but to learn. I have only completed a few chapters but am very excited to complete all three levels in his series. I really believe I'll be able to "play" and not just memorize a song.
