About the Author

Julian Henriques is currently senior lecturer in the Department of Media and Communications at Goldsmiths, University of London. He was previously senior lecturer for Film and Television at CARIMAC, at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica. His previous publications include the joint authorship of Changing the Subject: Psychology, Social Regulation and Subjectivity. He also wrote and directed the feature film "Babymother," a reggae musical.

Excellent read. I have earmarked almost every other page

Excellent read. I have earmarked almost every other page. I grew up with a controlling, toxic mother, moved across the globe to get away. I got the same type of guilt trips for years. I had a nervous breakdown every time I had to call home, thinking what else I need to answer for this time. Years passed and the behavior that was instilled into me growing up seeped into my everyday life including my work. I worked myself up to a lead position but my past was holding me back. People were walking all over me and I let it happen! I was terrified my bosses, answering to them like they were my parents. It was horrible and stressful. It took me years to gain control and get more assertive. Reading this book it was great to get some validation that I am on the right track for healing. Thank you. I know I will re-read this book many many times in the future.

Intense for empaths

Wow. This was one of the most difficult books I've ever had to read. Whereas, I grew up in a toxic home. This brought up a lot of emotions for me. Really good book, still if you were traumatized by your parents take a weekend to read it. I read the book mid-week and had to take off work for a day, because reflecting on my childhood. Its a very good place to start on the road to recovery. I have generational toxic mothers and this book actually gave me more compassion and understanding for my mother.

Peace of Mind

I once heard this quote: Our neuroses cause the most psychic distress when those who inculcated them die and move beyond argument and mercy. This book brought me a lot of peace of mind before and after my father died. It enabled me to share with my father how the past had caused me great pain, but I nonetheless wanted to move beyond that in a more helpful and loving way. He could not hear what I had to say, but being able to articulate it, after reading this book, gave me great peace of mind for many years afterwards. So, when he passed away, I had no regrets about not having tried to heal the relationship. I had done all I could responsibly do; I resolved I was not responsible for the riff that had lasted for two decades. I was free.

About the Author

Marge Lial (late) became interested in math at an early age—it was her favorite subject in the first grade! Marge's intense desire to educate both her students and herself inspired the writing of numerous best-selling textbooks. Marge, who received Bachelor's and Master's degrees from California State University at Sacramento, was affiliated with American River College. An avid reader and traveler, her travel experiences often found their way into her books as applications, exercise sets, and feature sets. She was particularly interested in archeology; trips to various digs and ruin sites produced some fascinating problems for her textbooks involving such topics as the building of Mayan pyramids and the acoustics of ancient ball courts in the Yucatan. We dedicate the new editions of the paperback developmental math series to Marge in honor of her contributions to the field in which she helped thousands of students succeed.

Diana Hestwood lives in Minnesota and has taught at Metropolitan Community College in Minneapolis for two decades. She has done research on the student brain and is an expert on study skills. Tim Thompson is a Reader in Biological and Forensic Anthropology at Teesside University, where he also acts as a consultant forensic anthropologist. Most of his research examines the effects of burning on the skeleton and how this can help interpret the context of death. He is also interested in the relationship between identity and identification, modification of the body in the modern context, and the role of forensic anthropology in the world at large.

Intense from beginning to end

When Evil Whispers

This is one of those books that's hard to put down! A very insightful, thought provoking, heart pounding book about the reality of the evil works of Satanists/Occultists in a small town and the Greater power of God. This is one of the best books I have read on this topic! The author, Tim Thompson stated "This book is not intended for a person just getting into spiritual warfare or a person raised in the church, this book is intended for those who are coming out of very evil and wicked sins, by helping people understand that no matter what sin you have committed, the blood of Jesus and Jesus Christ name is above every name!"

I highly reccommend When Evil Whispers for that same catagory of individuals and for mature believers in Christ. It is not "sugar coated". Not for the weak minded as it may be graphic and disturbing for some readers. Evil does exist and it is ugly.

The message the author wanted to share was lost

Like Demons Exposed, I think this subject can be better written that to give so much glorification to sexual immorality and then try to counteract it with a few pages of scripture verses simply listed without actually relating them to the previous book of sinful glorification. I'm sorry I wasted my money on this book.
Frankly I was so disappointed because this is a subject so dear to my heart since I minister to so many caught up in the paranormal and all things demonic. The subject is too important to waste by presenting the sins and God's instructions in this manner. How much better the book would have been had Thompson actually gone to the trouble of showing what God's word says about the sin and showing how God has conquered all sin through Jesus Christ throughout the book. To simply list a few scripture verses at the end just doesn't cut it. I think Thompson wants to show that any sin can be forgiven by God, no matter how foul and distasteful. But the story itself, although horrific, can be so titillating that one can read the book, skip the last 4 pages and miss the whole point he was trying to make.

Although Bones is armed with a code breaker, "detective powder," and a walkie-talkie, none of those help when it comes to solving the "crime," which turns out to be more of a mix-up than a mystery. Still, this is accessible, amusing, and attractively designed, with large color images taking up most of the room in this slim book. A recipe for spinach noodle cupcakes is included, but frankly, the book hasn't made them sound all that appetizing. Ilene Cooper

My 5 year old son loves Bones!

My kindergarten son loves this book (and all the Bones books). It is an early chapter book and the full color illustrations make it reader-friendly for young readers. The story is simple enough for the earliest readers but entertaining and not too lengthy for short attention spans.
