This book is based on the concept of guided inquiry. Guided inquiry is an approach to learning based on research on how people think and learn… This approach has been used successfully in a wide variety of classrooms, from large introductory classes of 300 students to smaller classes of 20. There are many variations of this approach and each instructor must decide what works best for their classroom. Ultimately, however, the focus should be on enabling students to actively engage in the content, work through the concepts, and ultimately discover those concepts for themselves.

Elliot P. Douglas is Associate Professor, Dean’s Fellow for Engineering Education, and Distinguished Teaching Scholar in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Florida. His research activities are in the areas of active learning, problem solving, critical thinking, and use of qualitative methodologies in engineering education. Specifically, he has published and presented work on the use of guided inquiry as an active learning technique for engineering; how critical thinking is used in practice by students; and how different epistemological stances are enacted in engineering education research. He has been involved in faculty development activities since 1998, through the ExCEEd Teaching Workshops of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Essential Teaching Seminars of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the US National Science Foundation-sponsored SUCCEED Coalition. He has received several awards for his work, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the Ralph Teetor Education Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers, being named the University of Florida Teacher of the Year for 2003-04 and the ASEE Southeastern Section Outstanding Teaching Award for 2013. He is a member of the American Society for Engineering Education and the American Educational Research Association and is currently Associate Editor for the Journal of Engineering Education.

Miserable read- not well written- hard to learn/follow as a student.

This book is crap. The method of self-paced discussion and group-think is like the blind leading the blind. How are a group of students who know nothing about a topic supposed to teach each other about a topic none of them knows anything about? Professorial use of the book will certainly help, and students may not have a choice as to which book their teachers use for this course, but if there is a choice, avoid this method of learning and this book that follows it.

This is so good! Can you say mildly terrifying? Emma's balance of attraction and reluctance is what makes the story really gripping. And the sex scenes are HOT!!! Love it, love everything about it!

Lost and Confused

I am so disappointed I don't know where to begin. In theory the storyline was good, however it failed to produce. It just didn't seem to flow; I would look up from my page and look back to continue the next paragraph and thought I'd skipped pages. Then the characters actions were completely unrealistic, not even 24 hours after breaking into her apartment they are acting as if they've been together months. Please don't discount Emma Clark based on this book... I have read other books from this author and was completely content.

This is a short story about Kyla. What would you do with a stalker? Would you be afraid? This tells a terrifying story of just that, but it isn't all scary. The sex scenes were hot and exciting. Can't wait to read the next installment as well as other works from this author.

About the Author
Dr. Michael Grieves splits his time between the business and academic worlds. He is the author of the seminal book on PLM, Product Lifecycle Management: Driving the Next Generation of Lean Thinking (McGraw-Hill, 2006). He has authored numerous papers and articles for both industry and academic publications. Dr. Grieves consults with a select number of international manufacturers, governmental organizations such as NASA and DoD, and information technology providers on PLM-related issues and has given speeches world-wide at PLM, engineering, and manufacturing conferences. Dr. Grieves has been a Co-Director of the Purdue PLM Center of Excellence and served as a Visiting Professor at the Purdue University College of Technology. Dr. Grieves has also had positions with the Engineering College at the University of Michigan, the MIS Department at the University of Arizona, and the business school at the University of Kansas. Dr. Grieves is Chairman Emeritus of Oakland University s School of Business Board of Visitors. He has taught in the United States, China, and Europe at the university senior undergraduate, and graduate school levels and has authored and taught executive education courses. Dr. Grieves is currently a Professor at CIMBA University, Asolo, Italy with an appointment at the University of Iowa. Dr. Grieves is a founder and board member of Interactive Frontiers, Inc. the world leader in golf and sport instructional software, Dr. Grieves has over thirty-five years experience in the computer and data communications industry. He has been a senior executive at both Fortune 1000 companies and entrepreneurial organizations during his career. He founded and took public a $100 million systems integration company and subsequently served as its audit and compensation committee chair after recruiting a new CEO. Dr. Grieves has substantial board experience, including serving on a subsidiary company of NTT Communications of Japan. A great compass through the new world of Product Lifecycle management

'Virtually perfect' is the best management text book I have come across in quite a while. It explains in thorough style and transparent, appealing language why the future of product development and manufacturing will be a digital one. Michael covers a true cradle-grave approach, and has expanded the thinking to include the product disposal phase. Good clarification of terminology, good advise regarding the approach to select the right system.
There are some corporate truisms in the book - for example how we lost the creative connection of large construction offices and how digital will help to rebuild that connectivity - globally and virtually. I specifically enjoyed Michael's advise on change management routing it in educating people on the benefits and general concepts of PLM, and not simply training them on some specific tools.

I would recommend the book to everybody who's involved in design and application of PLM systems, regardless which industry.

Would be great if the book could be purchased in electronic format - that would make it truly perfect.

Whats the matter with Kindle Reading app on windows 8.1 . It has multiple bugs including the following
1. No Page Number : I dont need a unique id on d bottom of the page . I need a physical page no corresponding to the actual book
2. No way to browse : Please check UI/UX of Adobe Reader . Its no much better to navigate across
3. No download permission : Ok I admit the purchase is more like a license to read . But what do i do if i dont have internet access and no kindle reader installed on a device .
I heard amazon kindle team is quick on complaints and fixing bugs . I didnt even find a page to put the issues on .
Thoroughly disappointed !

Ganter notably addresses the issue of legality by outlining the parameters of where readers can practice this art form without breaking any laws. The author uses general sketches in red and black ink for the first half of the book to portray the various graffiti designs. The latter portion relies upon full-on color to illustrate the different spraying styles. The book is at times somewhat technical, so those looking for a full art history of graffiti might wish to go elsewhere. Sample exercises for teachers to use in the classroom are also included. This is a great book for artists, painters, taggers, teachers and even graphic designers.
history, verbaige, and an appendix of all sorts of info.
Also science of the can, perspective techniques, use of color.
It's a great book, even for those not artistically inclined, would make for a good addition to a collection.

Even makes a a good coffee table book, very interesting.

About the Author

 Robert W. Cherny is professor of history at San Francisco State University, where he has been a member of the history faculty since 1971. In 1995—96, he served as president of the Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era. He was the Distinguished Fullbright Lecturer at Moscow State University in 1996 and held a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities in 1992—93. He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1972 and his B.A. from the University of Nebraska in 1965. His books include A Righteous Cause: The Life of William Jennings Bryan (1985, 1994), Populism, Progressivism, and the Transformation of Nebraska Politics, 1885—1915 (1981), and, with William Issel, San Francisco, 1865—1932: Politics, Power, and Urban Development (1986). His essays include “William Jennings Bryan and the Historians,” Nebraska History (1996), “the Democratic Party in the Era of William Jennings Bryan” in Democrats and the American Idea: A Bicentennial Appraisal (1992), and “Willa Cather and the Populists,” Great Plains Quarterly (1983). He is also co-author of Making America: A History of the United States (1995).

An often overlooked and neglected period of time in the study of American history

American Politics In The Gilded Age is a great addition to The American History Series published by Harlan Davidson. This book is to be used mainly as a companion or supplement to a main textbook, but it is good to read separately on its own. The book discusses politics in the late nineteenth century. Some of the topics covered by author Robert Cherny are the agrarian revolt including farmers' parties, the issue of the gold standard, imperialism under President McKinley, the emergence of Populism and third parties such as the Greenback Party, civil service reform, the similarity of and lack of dominance of neither the Democratic nor the Republican party during this time period, the economic depression of the 1890s, the administrations of the so-called "weak" presidents of the late nineteenth century, and much more. This is an interesting period of time in American history. A lot was going on. Unfortunately, a lot of people view this as a very boring period of time to study. To me, it's quite the contrary. This book enables you to learn about the politics of such presidents as Grant, Hayes, Garfield, Arthur, Cleveland, Benjamin Harrison, and McKinley.

I recommend this book highly. If you never were taught much about this time period when you were in school or if your high school history teacher completely skipped over it like mine did (he jumped from 1877 to 1901 and said the reason for skipping over 25 years was because there wasn't much going on during that time period), then you should make up for lost time, literally.

Excellent overview of the politics of the era.

Cherny does an excellent job of discussing politics around the turn of the century. He discusses the political deadlock between both powers when they were almost so equally matched neither could get any agenda passed. Cherny does an excellent job of discussing the many organizations that farmers organized to put pressure on politicians to better their situations. One of the main organizations he discusses is the Populists who made some gains in the Democratic party but realistically failed to make any significant changes. The book is short and very easy to read and understand.
