Learn about Inside Death Row Records & Strength of The First Female of Death Row!
By MCA
Firstly, I'm a huge Death Row Records fan so this was on my radar for quite some time. She tried releasing this book years ago but there were some legal issues. With Suge locked up the book came out. I own other biographies for people affiliated with Death Row like Simone Green (photographer for Death Row- got her a**whopped at DR Office) and Stormey Ramdhan (Suge's "girlfriend"). I think Jewell is immensely talented and I obviously crave more Death Row info so I bought the book.

The book gives great insight to Jewell's time on Death Row and most importantly her relationship with Suge Knight. We hear about the side to Suge before he became Gangster and Jewell was the one person on the Row to stand up to him and question his behaviour so naturally she paid for that in terms of not being respected and financially compensated. Unfortunately, she does not go into great details her relationship with him other than she was cool enough to speak to him the way she did because she knew the real Suge. I like how her BF Puddin pistol whipped him and she said "Suge knew he was no match for Puddin". Yea its that good!

The book tells on her life experiences during her time with Death Row. Her relationships with men were the worst. I actually started to get angry seeing all the mistakes she kept making with men but as she clearly states, in the end she was a trusting woman that just wanted to be loved and to follow her heart with love and her dreams of being a singer and being more. What's so wrong with that? Absolutely nothing. Her very visual portrayals of her relationships left graphic images of what she went through physically and emotionally and I respect her for it.

Its definitely worth purchasing. There were however a couple facts and issues I had with the book. For example, she never mentions her singing "For the Love of Money" with Bone Thugs which I think is one of her best collaborations and she goes into detail working relationships with all the nobody producers and singers so I was looking for more into the history or her songs with Bone and of course 2Pac. She only briefly talks about a conversation or two with Pac and she did some fantastic songs with him so I'm not sure why. She talks about her experience with Pac dying in Vegas and her ordeal during her second son who was born after his death but in the book he was born in February 1996 and Pac died in September 1996. Timing is off. She was also there at the party in LA with Biggie and Puff and cited knowing Benzino from Vibe but that clown Benzino is from The Source not Vibe. I thought she should have gone into more detail about that night. She mentioned she had the low down on Dr. Dre's real sexuality and the stuff that went down but never mentions anything at all and her relationship with Snoop could have been in greater detail. This is what we bought the book for - details!!!!

Overall, its a terrific book and I recommend it. Her music and story is excellent and inspirational and unlike her last husband comparing her to Beyonce, I believe Jewell's music is 100% better than most of these notable female stars today. Has Jewell missed her opportunity? I certainly think so but give this woman the respect and admiration she deserves. She has mine and I support her, her struggles, her family and her ambition. I'll purchase your album and book anyday Jewell!

Controversial and Exciting
By Tony Paylor
This is a revealing and controversial book by Jewell Caples the former member of the “Death Row” and an R&B queen. Due to legal implications this book's launching was delayed. This book states how she started her singing career and when she started to sing with Dr Dre and how her career started with Death Row which is one of the most controversial record labels in the music industry. Some intimate secrets are shared by her in this book including the premonition about Tupac’s death and how she pleaded him not to go to Vegas, it could have saved his life if he had listened to her. Other highlights of her memoirs are Dr Dre’s sexual preference and the way Suge (Knight) conducted the business. She expressed her anger over Knight’s treating artists badly. Jewell recalls that she was introduced as Knight’s sister and when the Death Row broke up and Knight went to jail, it was difficult for her to launch her career as nobody wanted to do anything with Suge. So when people asked where is Jewell the lady who sung those hooks, well, here it is, the time of truth by the lady herself. Very interesting read for all of you rap lovers.

Finally Damnit!!
By Shara
I've been waiting on this book to drop for awhile now and finally it's here. I'm a big fan of Jewells music and I appreciate her contribution to the music industry, especially the west coast being that I am a born and raise LA native..... Now, about the book; If you're looking for a juicy, tell all that is NOT what your gonna get. I didn't get exactly what I had anticipated but overall it was an okay read. Nothing made me drop my Jaw or clutch my pearls but I can say that the story was definitely interesting and held my attention. Maybe when Michel'le drops her book we will get a bit more juice but overall I'm not mad. It was very well written and gave me some insight on what was going on besides just making music.
