This cookbook helped immensely to be able to control my son's iron overload and keep him able to live a comfortable existence for the time he had left. I feel if a person was diagnosed early in life before the symptoms appear of organ failure there is a strong chance of averting a lot of the damage to the organs by the iron. Recipes in this book are tasty and easy to follow plus explains how to calculate what is in it.

This cookbook is a great place to start if you want to understand iron absorption in your diet and gain a sense of contol over your iron intake. Like the old adage about teaching a man to fish, it provides real tools for those of us with HHC. The authors don't just present a buch of recipes. Instead they take the reader through a layman's overview of iron absorption and how it can be blocked. There is enough information in here that the experienced or adventurous cook can even extrapolate and create his/her own iron-blocking recipes (although there are enough recipes in the cookbook that there is no "need" for this). 3 members of my family have been diagnosed with HHC (including my mother), and my mother was cutting all kinds of things out of her diet (meat, certain vegetables, etc.) because they contained "too much" iron. I gave her The Hemochromatosis Cookbook for Christmas and she has called me numerous times to tell me how thrilled she is with the information and recipes, what she's making now, etc. The Hemochromatosis Cookbook showed her that she didn't have to give up any particular foods; she just has to combine her intake of iron rich foods with iron-blocking foods/nutrients. The Hemochromatosis Cookbook really gives one a sense of power over that rusty little element, providing multiple options for controlling and blocking dietary iron absorption.

A good book for talking about food colors

I bought this book to teach and talk to my daughter about eating colorful foods. She likes to read the book, and I have gotten her to the point where she is willing to at least try the healthy foods that I cook. No luck so far getting her to actually eat them though.

"The Portable Jefferson" consists of a vast collection of Jefferson's works. It provides us with valuable insights into his mind and his world.

The longest entry is "Notes on the State of Virginia". It provides a multifaceted assessment of the Virginia known by Jefferson. Politics, the economy, topography, populations, flora and fauna are all included in this report. I read with particular interest the reports on areas of French settlement in what is now Illinois, areas in which my ancestors were living but to which Jefferson had never traveled and about which he had to have learned from the reports of others. Many insights into the Virginia of his day are very interesting.

Jefferson's July, 1774 tome on "A Summary View Of The Rights of British America" give a preview of America's grievances on the eve of the Revolution.

The next segment consists of Jefferson's public papers and addresses. Some are well known, such as the Declaration of Independence, while others are obscure, but often no less interesting.

The last segment of the book consists of many private letters written to a host of correspondents. Some of these are rather mundane matters of personal interest, while others are occasions for expositions of political views and comments on the news of the day. I found particularly interesting his comments on developments in France during its Revolution.

I have long had an interest in Jefferson. This book enables the reader to see him in new and deeper lights. His thought, the breath of his interests and his genius shine on the pages of his book. This is a book to read and then keep handy for reference.

Get the book

Thomas Jefferson is the most brilliant man in the history of the world, in my humble opinion. I have my degree in Constitutional history and can testify that Jefferson understood the principles of Liberty better than any of the Founders, and better than anyone else whose work I've ever come across. This particular book is one that everyone should own. It's set up well, is easy to maneuver, and has Jefferson's greatest gems all in one package.

Neat book. has a lot of the pertinent documents that Jefferson wrote and correspondences he had with people in his time. I wish there were some more biographical information in it, but it's a great source for primary material.

About the Author

Raffaele D'Amato is a Turin-based researcher of ancient and medieval military. After achieving his first PhD in Romano-Byzantine Law, he gained a second doctorate in Roman military archaeology. He is the vice-head of the Laboratory of the Danubian Provinces at the University of Ferrara.

Igor Aksent Jevich Dzis studied in Crimea and Moscow. He has worked on historical films, and has illustrated military historical subjects for international publications. He currently lives in Crimea.

Peter Dennis was born in 1950. Inspired by educational magazines such as Look and Learn, he studied illustration at Liverpool Art College. Peter has since contributed to hundreds of books, predominantly on historical subjects, including many Osprey titles. A keen wargamer and model-maker, he is based in Nottinghamshire, UK.

Not Roman Empire! Byzantium was Greek.
Was hoping book would contain historically accurate information on the fall of Constantinople.
Nothing at all on the last Megas Doukas. Waste of my money. There are better sources. The Seige and Fall of Constantinope in 1453, printed by Ashgate, was worth every cent. Find my review.
Bogus book. Good for people who know nothing and can look at historic art and artifacts, but won't know how woefully inadequate the researchers were.
Look elsewhere for facts and enjoy pretty illustrations and photos.

excellent true story

excellent true story of a man transformed from being the right hand man to Richard butler to an activist against that hateful group. yes the grammar and spelling isn't perfect, as it was written in a prison cell.

This book represents why racism is alive, even in 2014.
Do you know what drives a person to racism?
Do you know what is the root cause of racism?
"Ignorance" is not the correct answer, it's a well rehearsed answer.
Fear is the correct answer.
The more critical someone is the more insecure they are.

I actually believe this is a great book !!! Has great in depth detail into his actual accounts and it's to be read as if he is telling the story so obviously grammar an stuff isn't perfect !!
